London Plastic Bag Project Reusable Bag Sources One reusable bag can hold the content of 2-3 plastic bags, sometimes more. Put another way, one reusable bag can prevent up to 125 plastic bags from being used per year. That's a lot of plastic bags! Plus, there's no double bagging, and they don't end up as litter. They are sturdier, so no spilled groceries. And they are often easier to carry than plastic bags. We do not endorse any specific product. Ecobags (www.ecobags.com A range of canvas shopping bags including lunch bags. Special Feature: Totes with Quotes Furoshiki (www.furoshiki.com Furoshiki is a traditional Japanese method of wrapping objects with cloth for transportation. A single cloth can be tied in different manners to wrap or carry different objects, thus reducing the amount of material used. This website features products and Furoshiki tying techniques. Grassroots Environmental Products (www.grassrootsstore.com) Based in Toronto, grassroots provides several different reusable bag designs, including a canvas bag for keeping lettuce crisp! They offer everything from book to bags to decorations. Love A Tree (www.love-a-tree.com) Various decorative cloth bags; standard tote bags, gift bags and bags for special occasions. POP packaging (www.poppackaging.com) POP produces all kinds of reusable bags, containing 25% - 100% recycled plastic material. Their shopping bags come in many different styles, ranging from ultracompact to thermal and even some bags for kids! Smart Bag (www.smartbag.ca) Green Bag Company Inc. (www.greenbag.info) Biodegradable bags: BioBag (www.biobag.ca) These bags are made from corn starch, and biodegrade in suitable conditions. The corn is grown in Italy under specified conditions. Ontario Parks has recently made the switch to biodegradable bags. Check out their site blog. Ecosafe Biodegradable Plastics (www.ecosafeplastics.com/qs) Cloth Bags: Avani Jute Bags (www.avanicreations.com) Importers of jute grocery bags, jute gift bags and other products. Jute is a natural fibre that is entirely biodegradable, that requires no pesticides in its production and requires no environmentally unfriendly products in its transformation. The Avani Creations supplier of jute in India is in the process of getting fair trade certification. Enviro-Tote, Inc. (www.enviro-tote.co) This 100% woman-owned company makes all their own bags locally. They have bags made from organic cotton, recycled plastic and regular cotton. HT Naturals (www.htnaturals.com) They produce bags (& lots of other clothing items) made from hemp, which does not require pesticides to grow. The bags are made in China in a fair-trade factory. The Cloth Bag Company (www.clothbag.com) This company produces reusable cloth tote bags made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic soda bottles, or unbleached cotton canvas. Rawganique (rawganique.com) A British Columbia-based company, which produces organic cotton, linen and hemp clothing, home products & reusable bags.
