Their attitude is - If you can't compost it, recycle it or reuse it, don't buy it.
That's how zero waste happens here and everywhere. If one person leaves with a new commitment to living lighter on the planet,
then we've done a good thing.
- Patrons are asked to bring a canvas shopping bag, reusable dishware, cloth napkins, and refillable water bottles.
- Food vendors serve on reusable dishware or use biodegradable dishware.
- Sales of one-time use recycleable plastic water bottles are banned.
There are 20 free filtered water stations plus local water from drinking fountains.
- Transportation - people are asked to use mass transit, bike or carpool- link on website assists people in making connections with one another.
- Ecostations are set up to compost, recycle, and landfill (items that are brought in from the outside).
- From-Stages run completely off the grid, powering each one with a different form of alternative energy,
from solar and biodiesel to an engine that runs on vegetable oil recycled from the festival's numerous food booths

- Patrons are asked to bring re-usable water bottles, their own dishes and a Hillside Mug if they own one. Drinking water is offered free.
Volunteers wash dishes. Only Hillside Mugs are accepted at the beer tent. Website design assists with carpooling.
- Demonstrations are held at an Environmental Expo
- Organizations which focus on green living, alternate energy sources, positive community development,
promotion of equality and sustainable development are set up free of charge in the Neighbourhood Tent.
