The purpose of learning Arabic
As Muslims, we, the parents, guardians and children, are required to learn Arabic so that we can say our prayers in Arabic and read the Holy Quran in the language in which it was revealed.
Allah (SWT) made Arabic the language of His last book, the Holy Quran, which was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) in order to convey it to the rest of mankind.
In order to understand the religion of Islam, one needs to read about it, especially the Holy Quran, in the same language in which it was revealed. Arabic is the language of almost most Islamic literature, e.g. the Prophetic Traditions and Islamic history and knowledge'. To read all of that in a language other than Arabic may limit the understanding and render it lacking. The Holy Quran in any language other than Arabic is considered a mere rendering of the true meaning. Again, Muslims need to recite parts of the Holy Quran everyday, five times a day during prayers.
Khushoo (concentration) in salat cannot be achieved without understanding what is being recited in prayer. In order to achieve this, the recitation has to be in Arabic and Arabic should be well understood and comprehended, not mere meaningless sounds. The Holy Quran is the Messenger's miracle to all mankind; it will not be recognized unless the reader knows Arabic so that he or she can see the miraculous and wonderful aspects of God's words in Arabic.
The Holy Quran is not only the word of Allah the Almighty to His Messenger, it is the book which contains guidance, rules, wisdom and stories for Muslims to understand and learn from so that we can apply its rules in our lives. Reading God's Word in Arabic makes us feel that Allah (SWT) is addressing us directly, as the Quran contains many (verses) ayahs which speak to one directly without mediation.
